About Us

Jim Shannon is no stranger to life on a farm! He spent 17 years on his father's farm in Western North Carolina. He got great experience in growing a variety of products on this farm. They grew Christmas trees, produce, and tobacco, just to name a few.

The Shannons sold their North Carolina farm in 1989 and made the move to South Georgia in 1990. Soon after the move the family started Shannon Farms. In the beginning Shannon Farms grew tomatoes, produce and crops, and they planted their first vineyard in 1991.

The new era of Shannon Vineyards has the family growing grapes for the table, juice and wine. Jim decided to start producing wine to diversify the business and sell a product that is nonperishable and value added. The wine making facility is located on a tract of land that the Shannons acquired in 1999. This brings the total acreage that Shannon Vineyards has dedicated to Muscadines to over 200. In October 2008 Shannon Vineyards released its first six wines. There are plans to release more in early 2010.
